How it all began
Important update from The Moldova Project
The Moldova Project (TMP) has grown significantly since it was founded in 2008, evolving from a small volunteering initiative into a UK-registered charity with an annual turnover of more than £100,000. It now reaches hundreds of people in Moldova every year, helping them work towards self-sufficiency.
The trustees and staff of TMP are excited by the changes we have seen in Moldova in recent years. The organisation now receives substantial support from Moldovan people, organisations and companies, and our team in Moldova has grown and gained experience. We believe that now is the time to change our governance arrangements to enable the organisation to grow even stronger and to reach its full potential.
In November 2020, the Moldova team registered an Association in Moldova: ‘The Moldova Project’. A board of trustees has been appointed in Moldova and is responsible for overseeing operations and strategy for the new organisation. As a result of its local registration, TMP will be able to get more involved in advocacy and casework for vulnerable families, and also to receive funds independently.
We believe the time is right for the new Moldovan organisation to be fully independent and that a team based in Moldova will be best placed to take the work forward with their knowledge of the needs and opportunities in their country. As a result, now that the new organisation is established, TMP in the UK is beginning the process of closing its operations. We will continue to accept funds until 28th February 2021, at which point donors who wish to support the new organisation’s work will need to transfer their donations directly to the Moldovan entity using Patreon - https://www.patreon.com/themoldovaproject. We will then work towards the closure of the UK organisation by the end of 2021, when all funds will have been disbursed.
At this important moment for The Moldova Project, we are reflecting on our successes to date and would like to thank the many people who have made all our work possible through their donations, time and support. We will keep you updated on this exciting new phase as our plans progress.
